Stand By Me

Stand by me, the smoke house voice sang
Above the brown-noise blacktop
I thought of you, glorious you - Us
Tight and crisp, against the world

Above the brown-noise blacktop
Carried by liquid splashes of memories
Tight and crisp, against the world
Talon sharp, lovely assassin, you had my back

Carried by liquid splashes of memories
I though of you, glorious you - Us
Talon sharp, lovely assassin, you had my back
Stand by me, the smoke house voice sang

  3. I loved the "taloned assassin" who "had your back." What imagery! And, of course, I still sing the song, even though I'm no longer in clubs. This seemed to me almost one of my own memories...! Funny, isn't it, how one poet's verse can ring that true to another's ear? Amy

    1. Such a great song, isn't it? That's cool that it runs alongside one of your own memories. I suppose many of us write from life's prompts for the same reason. Good to hear from you, Amy.
