How Long I Stood

how long i stood

grass grew
birds flew
dragonflies around the pond took
   rest from ceaselss flight
the sun went down
and still the ground
felt no relief
of leaden feet

wind blew
wet with dew
long grass no longer lay bent
   in the footprints
where once you stood
my greatest good
forever bright
gone from sight

how long it took my heart to start
was measured by empty space
the void you left behind
to fill what is to be
that all my eye can see

how long i stood

Written for dVerse Poets Pub ~ Poets OpenLinkNight ~ Week 100

  1. really nice...interesting use of rhymes as well to pull this along...the space left in their leaving can def be hollow and cold place to be...and that void a tangible thing...and all you can do is stand...

  2. Wow, I really like the way you weave your words..I can almost feel the space..a void..standing in a silent place...

  3. I like the first and last verses playing off each other ~

Sometimes those spaces are hard to fill up, but time may be a good healer ~ Good to see you at the pub tonight ~

  4. waiting for love... and knowing that there is more... such a beautiful poem i honestly did not want it to end...thank you.

  5. I really like the progression of this poem, beginning and ending with the same lines & going full circle within. A void of the heart is definitely not easy, but it IS good that one's heart CAN start again after heartache.

  6. I really enjoyed this read...the rhyming flow and the poignancy as well. Great writing EP.

  7. ...enough to claim that you can stand still despite of all the sadness that shaped your fears... littlest of nobility still clings inside this poor remains of war... and that i admire... smiles...

  8. But i dont think she is gone at all , or for good

  9. It flows nicely. Love the imagery.

  10. Stopped by to see what you're writing these days and found a lovely treat, as usual. I like the flow and closed circle of this.
